Predatory lending turns scarcity into a weapon, and children are taken as “security” for debts. These are walls within walls, dividing brothers from brothers and hollowing out the people the wall is meant to protect. Nehemiah listens, restrains his anger, then confronts the nobles publicly, demanding measurable repentance, restored property, and an oath before God so righteousness can hold the city together.
